Berdasarkan studi Journal of Renal Nutrition, konsumsi serai dalam dosis tinggi atau jangka panjang dapat menurunkan laju filtrasi glomerular (GFR).<\/p>\n<p>GFR sendiri merupakan ukuran rata-rata penyaringan darah oleh ginjal untuk membuang limbah dan racun. Karena penurunan GFR berkaitan erat dengan menurunnya fungsi ginjal secara keseluruhan, penderita gangguan ginjal sangat disarankan untuk menghindari konsumsi air serai.<\/p>\n<h3>Pasien darah tinggi dengan konsumsi obat diuretik<\/h3>\n<p>Pasien hipertensi yang menggunakan obat diuretik sebaiknya tidak mengonsumsi air serai. Obat diuretik berfungsi menurunkan tekanan darah dengan cara merangsang pengeluaran garam dan air berlebih dari tubuh melalui urin.<\/p>\n<p>Karena serai memiliki efek serupa dengan obat diuretik, mengonsumsi keduanya secara bersamaan dapat menyebabkan tekanan darah turun terlalu drastis atau hipotensi.
