Selama itu pula, buah dan pohon\u00a0kurma\u00a0memainkan peran dalam beberapa keyakinan agama, termasuk Islam. Terlepas dari itu, kurma secara umum merupakan sumber serat, vitamin B, serta mineral seperti kalium dan magnesium yang baik.<\/p>\n<p>Salah satu jenis kurma yang paling umum adalah kurma medjool. Departemen Kementerian Amerika Serikat mengungkapkan, bahwa satu butir kurma medjool memiliki kandungan vitamin B6 sebanyak lebih dari empat persen kebutuhan harian orang dewasa.<\/p>\n<p>Kandungan kalium dalam sebutir kurma medjool juga hampir mencapai lima persen dari kebutuhan harian pria dewasa dan lebih dari enam persen kebutuhan wanita dewasa. Kalium memiliki peran penting dalam mengontrol tekanan darah.<\/p>\n<p>Satu butir kurma medjool juga memiliki magnesium sebanyak empat persen dari kebutuhan harian wanita dewasa dan sekitar tiga persen dari kebutuhan pria dewasa. Kandungan serat ini bisa menjadi penyeimbang bagi kandungan gula di dalam kurma yang bisa mencapai 16 gram per butir.<\/p>\n<p>Selain dimakan secara langsung, kurma juga bisa diolah menjadi beragam hidangan manis untuk berbuka puasa. Keluarga Elnakib misalnya, kerap mengolah kurma dengan cara memotong-motongnya lalu merebusnya dengan susu. Olahan ini dapat menghasilkan kudapan yang mirip\u00a0<em>rice pudding<\/em>, namun tidak bergelatin.<\/p>\n<p>Namun perlu diingat, menjadikan kurma ke dalam sajian penutup mulut tak serta merta membuat sajian tersebut menjadi sehat.
