Hal ini diungkap oleh sebuah penelitian yang digagas para peneliti di University of Stockholm, Swedia.\u00a0Penyebabnya adalah keberadaan bahan kimia berbahaya yang terkait dengan kanker.<\/p>\n<p>Tim ilmuwan lingkungan menjelaskan bahan kimia berbahaya itu adalah zat per dan polifluoroalkil (PFAS). Hasil studi mereka telah diterbitkan dalam jurnal\u00a0<em>Environmental Science &amp; Technology<\/em>\u00a0pada 2 Agustus 2022. Peneliti telah mempelajari PFAS selama satu dekade.<\/p>\n<p>Mereka menemukan bukti bahwa zat-zat tersebut telah menyebar ke seluruh atmosfer, tanpa meninggalkan tempat yang tidak tersentuh. Ada ribuan jenis PFAS, semuanya buatan manusia, yang digunakan dalam aneka barang rumah tangga.<\/p>\n<p>Sebut saja kemasan makanan, pakaian anti air, furnitur, karpet, lapisan antilengket pada panci dan wajan, busa pemadam api, alat elektronik, juga beberapa sampo dan kosmetik. Dari sanalah zat menyebar melalui atmosfer dan jatuh kembali ke Bumi dalam bentuk hujan. PFAS kerap dijuluki &#8220;bahan kimia selamanya&#8221; karena tahan lama tanpa rusak dalam jangka panjang, dan jumlahnya dapat menumpuk di lingkungan.<\/p>\n<p>Sejauh ini, PFAS telah ditemukan di Antartika dan di es laut Arktik. Prevalensi mereka di seluruh planet berbahaya bagi kesehatan manusia. Studi menghubungkannya dengan beberapa jenis kanker, penurunan kesuburan, pengurangan respons vaksin, kolesterol tinggi, dan keterlambatan perkembangan anak.<\/p>\n<p>Seperti mikroplastik, sulit untuk mengidentifikasi semua efek kesehatan jangka panjang dari paparan PFAS. Pasalnya, di dalam PFAS ada begitu banyak senyawa berbeda dan sangat umum di lingkungan. Studi menunjukkan bahwa semua orang di Bumi berisiko.<\/p>\n<p>Kemungkinan yang paling terkenal di antara zat-zat itu adalah asam perfluorooctanoic (PFOA) dan asam perfluorooctanesulfonic (PFOS). Pada Juni 2022, berdasarkan bukti baru tentang dampak kesehatan, Badan Perlindungan Lingkungan secara signifikan memperketat pedoman tentang seberapa banyak kandungan aman PFOA dan PFOS dalam air minum.<\/p>\n<p>Sebelumnya, Badan Perlindungan Lingkungan AS (EPA) telah menetapkan tingkat yang dapat diterima untuk kedua zat tersebut pada 70 bagian per triliun. Karena PFAS bertahan begitu lama dan berputar melalui lautan, atmosfer, dan tanah dengan sangat efektif, para peneliti memperkirakan tingkatnya akan terus menjadi sangat tinggi.<\/p>\n<p>Penulis utama studi, Ian Cousins, menyoroti bahwa berdasarkan pedoman AS terbaru untuk PFOA dalam air minum, air hujan di mana-mana akan dinilai tidak aman untuk diminum.
